What the free week actually means
The Laid-Off Pass is a small, practical gift. It offers a free seven-night stay to selected guests who are US residents, eighteen or older, and were laid off in the last twelve months. All industries are welcome. There is no purchase necessary, and no fee to apply or be considered.
This is not permanent free housing. An application does not reserve a home, guarantee selection, or create a tenancy. The program offers one free week per month across the network, not one week at each property. Exact dates and accommodation are confirmed in writing with the selected guest. The free week has no cash value and is not transferable.
Where you can stay and what is included
The free-week homes are in Comanche, Texas; Durrës, Albania; and Yunnan, China. Sarasota and Boston are part of the wider family of homes but are not included in the Laid-Off Pass. Comanche offers tiny homes and RV lots. Durrës offers a room, and Yunnan includes family-run partner homes.
Utilities and Wi-Fi are included at every home. In Yunnan, three meals a day are included too. Elsewhere, food is your responsibility. You arrange and pay for travel, local transportation, passports, visas, insurance, and personal expenses. Check entry requirements before choosing an overseas home. Pets are welcome at Comanche only, subject to the confirmed home’s rules.
Applying without a polished pitch
The application asks for your name and contact details, city and state, layoff month, industry, preferred homes and dates, and why you want to try a slower life. Include a video of about sixty seconds through a link we can view or a private upload. Uploads can be MP4, WebM, or MOV and must be no larger than 200 MB.
Applications are reviewed weekly. Eligibility, your reason for applying, dates, availability, and practical fit with the home and host are considered. We may ask follow-up questions. No stay or response date is guaranteed. Your application video remains private. Selected guests agree to create a sixty-second diary, and publication requires separate written permission. Do not buy travel until written confirmation arrives.
