House-sitting is an option to explore separately, not a service offered by this site. Before considering an arrangement, ask what care is expected, how long you can stay, and which costs remain yours. A temporary place to stay is not a promise of a continuous home. Plan for the gaps between stays rather than assuming one arrangement will lead to another.
Home-sharing
Sharing a home is another way to consider a different routine without renting a whole house. It does not mean the room is free. This site lists a furnished private room in a shared house near Siesta Key in Sarasota at $1,000 per month, with utilities and Wi-Fi included and a 30-night minimum. Ask about the shared space, house rules, availability, and written terms before committing.
Caretaking / property steward
Caretaking or property stewardship is an arrangement to investigate independently, not an offer from Retire Rent Free. Ask whether accommodation is part of the arrangement, what responsibilities it involves, and what happens when it ends. Consider whether the expectations fit the retirement you want. Do not assume that looking after a property provides permanent free housing.
Work-exchange (WWOOF/Workaway-style)
Work-exchange is an option to investigate separately, not a program offered by this site. A WWOOF/Workaway-style arrangement should prompt questions about the work, accommodation, hours, costs, and written expectations—not assumptions about what is included. Decide whether exchanging your time fits your needs before making plans. This guide does not establish any right to work or live in another country.
A free trial week — stated honestly
Our free one-week stay is available to those who qualify under our Free Stay Rules. It is ONE week, not ongoing rent-free retirement, and it is NOT a separate retiree program. It does not extend into permanent free housing, and a stay is not guaranteed. The Laid-Off Pass application path is the way applications are processed; it does not imply that retirees qualify.
The free week applies only at participating homes in Comanche, Durrës, and Yunnan. It is NOT offered in Sarasota, which has a 30-night minimum and no free week, or Boston. The trial does not replace any monthly rate. Review the rules and wait for written confirmation before arranging travel.
