Try before you retire
A change of pace does not have to begin with a permanent move. Renting a month first, arranging a house-sit or home swap, or taking a trial stay are ways to consider testing daily life before committing. House-sitting and swapping are ideas to explore separately, not services offered by this site. Ask what each arrangement involves before making plans.
Start with a monthly stay
The Homes page lists monthly accommodation in Comanche, Durrës, Yunnan, Sarasota, and Boston. Sarasota offers a furnished private room in a shared house for $1,000 per month, with utilities and Wi-Fi included and a 30-night minimum. A month can give you time to notice how shared space and a slower routine fit your needs. Ask about current availability and agree the details in writing before committing.
A free week is a separate invitation
Our free one-week stay is available to those who qualify under our Free Stay Rules. It is not a separate retiree program, and considering retirement does not create an entitlement to a free week. Read the rules before applying; a stay is not guaranteed. A paid stay and an application for a free week are separate things, and paying does not improve your chances of selection.
Where free weeks apply
Participating free-week homes are in Comanche, Texas; Durrës, Albania; and Yunnan, China, subject to the Free Stay Rules. Not every location offers a free week. Sarasota is for longer stays only, starting at 30 nights, and has no free week; Boston is outside the free-week program too.
What to consider before you commit
A week is a taste of a different routine, not a guaranteed long-term home. Ask about sleeping arrangements, accessibility needs, house rules, and the full written booking terms before accepting any stay. Consider the travel and personal expenses alongside the accommodation, rather than treating a room price as your whole budget. If you qualify under our Free Stay Rules, apply with your preferred dates and wait for written confirmation before booking travel.
